DIY Montessori Kitchen Hack. This is for all my moms out there! If your household is anything like mine, as a mom your constantly thinking of things that will bring joy to your kids and foster their development at the same time. My baby’s 18 months now and is on the MOVE.
I wanted to get her something for Christmas that she could grow with and would teach her life skills. So after researching good gifts for a then 15 month old I stumbled across the idea of a Montessori style kitchenette.
The Montessori concept is independent play that fosters teaching and learning life skills which I LOVE. So I of course was all in for this idea.
My husband on the other hand could probably honestly care less haha, his mentality is as long as she’s happy and healthy we’re doing a good job. Which I respect that but as a mom I want to give her the world. DIY Montessori Kitchen Hack.
So let’s get to it how did I go from wood into a Kitchenette that functions with running water and drains?
Check it out below! (See my linktree for more details on the items I purchased)
- IKEA Duktig Kitchen: This kitchen comes dissembled but it gives you the foundation for the kitchen all in one. IT does come with a plastic stove and fake facet which. I replaced with a cutting board and a facet that runs water.
- Running water: So the secret is I keep two water jugs beneath the the kitchen sink one is filled with water and the battery powered facet pulls the water from there and pours it into the sink. The second jug is empty with a metal funnel on top and I position it underneath the sink to drain the water from the sink! I did have to drill holes into the base of the sink to create the illusion of a functional sink.
- Kitchen accessories: I stumbled on the Melissa and Doug brand and fell in love they offer affordable good quality items kids. I purchased a little pot/pan set that came with a stand for easy cleanup and storage. I also grabbed some little cooking utensils as well.
There ya go, you have the short details on how I created this for my toddler and she LOVES it. It forster indepedence, lifeskills while improving her fine motor skills. This doctor moms approves!
